New ELISA available for malaria

New laboratory test to detect P. falciparum malaria infection in asymptomatic individuals

A new enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the qualitative detection of the presence of histidine-rich protein 2 (HRP2) of Plasmodium falciparum malaria is now commercially available. The Alere™ Malaria Ag P.f HRP2 ELISA has a limit of detection of 25pg/ml for recombinant HRP2 using a 50ul sample volume of whole blood. This new ELISA kit may be used as a laboratory confirmation test for reference panel validation with standard positive samples and could be used as a reference method for highly sensitive HRP2-based tests for malaria such as the ultra-sensitive Alere™ Malaria Ag Pf. The Alere™ Malaria Ag P.f HRP2 ELISA was granted Korean FDA registration in October 2017.

The development of the Alere™ Malaria Ag P.f HRP2 ELISA was supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Clinical evaluation and technical support were provided by PATH and FIND. To order the Alere™ Malaria Ag P.f HRP2 ELISA, contact CustomerServiceSD@alere.com.
